History, memory and power. The Brazilian Integralist Action and the mystified reconstruction of past and present
Abstract
Th e paper discusses the discourse of the three main leaders of the Brazilian Integralist Action, i.e. Plínio Salgado, Miguel Reale and Gustavo Barroso, highlighting the construction of a mythic memory of the Brazilian colonial past and the creation of a negative image of the recent past - beginning with Brazil’s independence - for the purpose of legitimizing the organization of society proposed by Integralism.
