Abstract

This article presents a retrospective approach on the relationship between youth and citizenship from the papers presented at the Intercom’s Research Group “Communication and Citizenship” from 2001 to 2009. It shows a quantitative analysis (the “youth” theme in the articles) and a qualitative (how the theme “youth” is discussed, conceptually and thematically, throughout the nine annual meetings). The goal is to offer material for a broader analysis on the relationship that is mediated by communication between young people and citizenship.

Alexandre Barbalho, Universidade Estadual do Ceará/Universidade Federal do Ceará

Graduado em História e em Ciências Sociais, mestre em Sociologia e doutor em Comunicação e Cultura Contemporâneas. Atualmente faz doutorado em Sociologia. Professor dos PPGs em Políticas Públicas e Sociedade (UECE) e em Comunicação (UFC). Autor, entre outros, de "Relações entre Estado e cultura no Brasil" (Unijuí, 1998); "A modernização da cultura: Políticas para o audiovisual nos Governos das Mudanças (Ceará, 1989-1998)" (UFC, 2005); "Textos nômades: Política, cultura e mídia" (BNB, 2008). Organizador de "Brasil, brasis: Identidades, cultura e mídia" (Fund. Demócrito Rocha, 2008) e co-organizador, com Raquel Paiva, de "Comunicação e cultura das minorias" (Paulus, 2005) e, com Albino Rubim, "Políticas culturais no Brasil" (UFBA, 2007).
