Sight and look: The Window of the Soul and the presentation of subjectivity
Abstract
The present article describes the construction paths of the subject in a documentary in a way that it is provided with autonomy and consistency, thus liberating the filmmakers from labels such as “subjectivism” or “perspectivis” or that they do not represent reality. The quest for a supposed representation of reality in the documentary is carried out through what we call discursive objectivity that is formed by the legitimation of the subject, resorting to the identification or affective participation and presentation of sensitive social topics, the stigma being a typical one. We observe these issues in the Brazilian movie “A Janela da Alma” (2001), or “The Window of the Soul”, by João Jardim and Walter Carvalho.
Key words: documentary, visual anthropology, subject in documentary, stigma.Downloads
