The article examines the concept of responsibility in Paul Ricoeur (1913–2005) and Hans Jonas (1903–1993), highlighting three main aspects. The first lies in the dissociation between imputation and responsibility, which are considered synonymous in legal application. The second aspect seeks to distinguish accountability for actions already carried out from prospective responsibility in relation not only to norms but also to the other. Finally, we aim to broaden the scope of the ethics of responsibility in three main ways: as prospective responsibility through commitment to those who will come into existence; as a perspective of the good life by considering the environment as a subject of rights; and as a result of applying the virtue of prudence, expanding the reach of our actions in relation to future generations.
