Abstract

The aim of this study was surveying the scientific production about parental stress and marital relationships in parents of children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD). An Integrative Literature Review from the past ten years (2010-2020) was produced. The databases consulted were: VHL; CAPES; Pepsic; Pubmed; Scielo. The following word combinations were used, in Portuguese and their English equivalents: Autism AND Parental Stress AND Conjugal Relationship; Autism AND Parental Stress AND Marital Relationship; Autism AND Parental Stress AND Marital Relationship; Autism AND Parental Stress AND Conjugality. Thirty-nine articles met the inclusion criteria. There was a prevalence of cross-sectional, quantitative, explanatory studies and a systemic approach. As risk factors for the couple's health, care overload, isolation and socioeconomic situation were cited. The protective factors, in turn, appear to be associated with dialogue, union, division of tasks, partner’s support and others networks support, beyond informational and / or therapeutic interventions. This research presents itself as a guide for future scientific productions and also, it demonstrates itself as an instructive means for the implementation of interventions for this audience that take into account the bidirectional character of family relationships.
