From literary theory to post-modern mini-fiction
Abstract
In this essay I present a theoretical model for the analysis of contemporary fiction, which I call “paradigmatic theory.” In the first section I propose a model for analyzing the formal components of any narrative text. In the following section, I present the formal features of these components in classic, modern, and postmodern fiction (the three paradigms of contemporary fiction). Here I sustain that classic fiction is successive and traditional; modern fiction is precisely the opposite, i. e., it is experimental, metaphorical or expressionistic. And postmodern fiction is the result of juxtaposing both kinds of narrative (in literature, film or any other artistic language). In the final section, I present the main features of minifiction (also known as short-short fiction), which is a genre of postmodern writing.
Key words: literary theory, post-modernity, fiction, minifiction, short-short fiction.Downloads
