Abstract

The present research investigated the innovation governance practices used by the most innovative companies in the South of Brazil, as well as the main challenges for its implementation and maintenance. Therefore, the research technique used was the interview, with the Council Presidents of three of the most innovative companies of the South of Brazil. The interviews allowed the understanding about the functioning of the innovation management of these companies, the functioning of the corporate governance structure, as well as the role of the Boards of Directors and the relationship that both have among themselves in order to form a structure of innovation governance. Subsequently, through the comparative research method, the results of the interviews were related in order to verify similarities and dissimilarities between the work systematics of these companies. The study shows that, although it’s not formalized, the three companies use the precepts of innovation governance, aiming to keep the culture of innovation strengthened. Also, shows that the greatest challenge for the implementation and maintenance of the innovation governance in these companies is the profile of the leadership, who must have internalized the importance of innovation and then guarantee its perpetuity within the organization.
