Abstract

The article discusses the relationship between the development of strategies of logistics and the planning and decision-making processes of global strategies. It is based on a multi-case study with a qualitative and descriptive approach that was conducted in four companies belonging to the Furniture Cluster of Ubá (MG, Brazil) (which is third largest cluster in Brazil), in which the interviews were analyzed through content analysis (CA). This technique attempts to indicate the hidden elements in human language as well as to understand the underlying meanings in explicit elements. The findings show that decentralization and a professional management are related with the strategic planning and decision-making processes. However, regardless of such interactions, the companies ascribe a reactive role to logistics, so that they do not consider the possibility of operating in an integrated supply chain through a strategic use of logistic activities.

Key words: decision-making, logistic strategy, supply chain.
