The influence of the rice husk ash substitution in the mortar’s adherence

Abstract


The aim of this study was to verify the substitution’s influence of the cement by rice husk ash (RHA) in the mortar’s adherence applied on structural ceramics blocks. The mortars were prepared with 0, 5 and 10% of ashes. The RHA was characterized through physical parameters (gravimetric loss-on-ignition, granulometrical composition), chemical (diffraction X-ray, X-ray fluorescence spectrometry) and the microstructure was analyzed by scanning electron microscope. The mortars were submitted to bond strength tests, being obtained larger result for the mortar with 5% of addition. Samples were removed of the group blocks-mortar with saw, in which the extension of adherence was analyzed. The results demonstrated that the mortar with 5% of rice rusk ash presents a smaller amount of pores in the interface, justifying the results found in the resistance rehearsals.
